Frequently asked questions

How can I calculate my gas spring?

To simplify calculation, we have developed special software that allows you to easily calculate gas springs. An installation diagram is generated immediately. Using this software and 3D technology, we can determine the right gas spring, force and position and integrate them directly into your digital design.

Do you also supply stainless steel gas springs?
Besides our steel gas springs, we also supply stainless steel 316 gas springs.

How does a gas spring work?
In its simplest form, the gas spring consists of a cylinder and a piston rod to which the piston is attached. When the piston rod with piston is pushed into the cylinder, the gas (nitrogen) will ‘flow’ from chamber (B) through special channels to chamber (A). By adjusting these channels, the behaviour of the gas spring (speeds, damping) can be tailored to the needs of the application. The pressure in both chambers (A & B) is equal, so the difference in surface area of the piston on side (A) and side (B) ensures that the piston rod will always be pushed out of the cylinder. This reaction provides the force of the gas spring.

What is inside a gas spring?
The gas spring is a hydropneumatic adjustment element consisting of a cylinder, piston rod and specific piston. A special sealing and guiding system seals the cylinder. The gas spring is filled with nitrogen and oil.

Can I also buy gas springs from you as an individual?
At Brimotech, we mainly specialise in sales to B2B, especially to the food processing industry, yacht building, bicycle parking systems and awning systems.

Do you have gas springs directly in stock?
Delivery is possible within 24 hours in the Netherlands, if a gas spring or damper is in stock at our own warehouse in Lelystad.

Can an old gas spring be refilled?
Yes, but it is not recommended due to possible wear and tear.

Does a gas spring need maintenance?
Our Brimotech gas springs are low-maintenance, so it is not necessary to maintain them periodically. Keeping them clean is always best.We will be happy to tell you more about installation advice and other options to extend the life of your gas springs.

How do I determine which gas spring I need?
To determine the right gas spring yourself, you can use the torque counter and calculate the force according to the diagram below.Of course we can do this for you, go to gas spring calculation ».

What is the service life of a gas spring?
Brimotech Solutions’ gas springs are among the absolute best. They have been shown in extensive tests to withstand 100,000 movements without any excessive leakage. The exact lifespan does depend on a number of factors. In particular, consider the environment and the end user.

What is the delivery time of gas springs?
The delivery time of gas springs depends on the category under which the gas spring falls. We have a standard (Quick Ship) range in steel and stainless steel 316 gas springs and custom-made (steel/RS 316) gas springs. In Lelystad, we mainly stock the Quick Ship stainless steel 316 gas spring in our warehouse. The steel Quick Ship programme is mostly in stock at our partner Vapsint in Italy.

What is the difference between a gas spring and a hydraulic damper?
A gas spring stores energy and provides spring action, while a hydraulic damper absorbs energy and slows movements to minimise shock and vibration. They have opposite functions, but can be used together in some systems.

What types of hydraulic dampers are available?
There are several types of hydraulic dampers, including damping on draft, damping on pressure, damping on both draft and pressure, adjustable dampers, and dampers with separation piston. Each type has specific applications depending on the desired damping properties.

What are hydraulic dampers used for?
Hydraulic dampers are used in many applications, such as sliding doors, waste containers, ship windows, shutters, industrial machinery, vehicles, and aircraft interiors.
