A lockable gas spring is a gas spring that can be locked in any position. This offers more control and flexibility, especially in applications where the position of a hatch or cover needs to be held.
Lockable gas springs (steel / stainless steel 316)
Brimotech supplies lockable gas springs for various types of applications. Think especially of systems with controlled movements where various positions must be possible. These are used in applications where stepless adjustment is necessary. We produce them for, among others: furniture, medical applications, yacht building and the food processing industry.
What is the difference between a standard gas spring and a lockable gas spring?
A standard gas spring provides constant force and movement, while a lockable gas spring can be locked in any position for more control.
Can lockable gas springs be adjusted?
Yes, lockable gas springs can be customised based on the customer’s specific needs, such as the type of locking mechanism and force.

Steel lockable gas springs
Our gas springs feature a black painted cylinder and hard chrome plated piston rod. The gas springs can be used as standard at temperatures from -30°C to +80°C and are fitted with NBR seals.
Stainless steel 316 lockable gas spring
Our stainless steel 316 lockable gas springs are technically identical to the steel version. The difference is that these are electro-polished and feature laser print coding. They also come standard with Viton seals.
Range of lockable gas springs
Both the steel and stainless steel 316 gas spring are available in five different versions:
- Elastic; Installable in any position.
- 100% rigid in compression.
- 100% rigid in tension; “Easy”, mounting with piston rod down, max angle approx. 30°. “Any mounting”, can be installed in any position.
- Flat curve (very low progression); Flat Curve (max 5.76x F1 in pressure) gas spring is a completely new gas spring that is often used in table adjustments. Some important features of this type of gas spring are very
low progression and low friction combined with a long stroke.

CUSTOM-MADE lockable GAS SPRINGS
We make all our lockable gas springs customer specific. Thus we can supply the gas springs on request in different colours, such as white/alu RAL 9006. For the various possibilities and combinations, please contact us for more information. In view of the food processing industry, we can supply our gas springs with FDA approved oil. The Lockable gas springs have a standard operating distance (of the pin) of 3.5mm. On request, an operating distance of 2.5 and 0.5mm is possible. This depends on the type of operation you want to apply. All lockable gas springs have a metric fine thread on the piston rod side. We can provide the cylinder side with metric thread or welded-on eyes. Automatic release is also possible. Customization provides greater safety and longer life for your complete application.
CALCULATE lockable GAS SPRING
Not every lockable gas spring is suitable for every application. Therefore, you should make a calculation before purchasing them. The calculation seems quite simple, but the center of gravity of each system changes with the angular rotation. This still makes the calculation a lot more complicated. If you are in possession of a 3D file of your application, you can mail it to us including your specifications and requirements. Note the weight and center of gravity in relation to the hinge point in a closed situation and attach it.
